OVERVIEW:
The part-time Production Stage Manager & Front of House Assistant for Lilly Theater participates in facilitating and supporting The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ theater production process by running the front of house operations for performances. The assistant organizes and supports teams involved in the production, maintaining communication during the process. The incumbent assists with set building and tear down, including construction, painting, and set assembly. They also support the operations of the Interpretation department throughout the Museum.
REPORTS TO: Lilly Theater Manager
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a production stage manager for theater productions, attending rehearsals and performances. Prepare for rehearsals by editing and distributing scripts, and coordinate schedules with department colleagues and designers.
- Create cast and character breakdowns, properties lists, and distribute rehearsal notes to the production team and management.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during rehearsals and performances, including safety taping, conducting safety walk-throughs, and communicating safety requests. Act as a liaison with other departments to ensure show safety.
- Operate lighting and sound equipment as a trained theater technician.
- Assist with scheduling and running auditions, collaborating with volunteer services to schedule volunteers and create front of house schedules.
- Support interpreter and actor rehearsals for presentations and shows outside the Lilly Theater, as directed.
- Assist with supporting museum events in Lilly Theater, including setup, teardown, attendance reporting, and technical needs.
- Perform duties related to show production and theater operations, such as ordering scripts, facilitating photo shoots, assisting with costume fittings, and producing attendance reports.
- Help run front-of-house operations, ensuring shows start on time, making calls to actors and crew, and assisting with staffing schedules.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in theater or stage management, or equivalent experience.
- 2 to 3 years of technical theater experience.
- Experience working in creative, fast-paced, operational environments.
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and backgrounds.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, multitasking ability, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
- Review documents, process paperwork, observe performances, operate sound and light boards, and make public presentations.
- Communicate effectively via telephone, virtual, in-person, group, and electronic methods.
- Handle keyboard, calculator, and paperwork processing.
- Negotiate stairs, sit/stand for long periods, traverse campus, lift up to 40 lbs., and move equipment.
