Job summary

Los Alamitos Unified School District is seeking a part-time Preschool/UTK classroom assistant to support teachers in planning and implementing approved curriculum. You will help create a safe, nurturing environment for preschool children and assist with classroom activities after school hours.

The role involves supervising students, preparing instructional materials, and performing clerical tasks to support daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus 12 ECE/Child Development units.
• Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher required.
• Experience with preschool-aged children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist individual or small groups of students as directed by the Preschool Lead or teacher.
• Prepare lessons and instructional materials as directed.
• Administer assessments and record observational data.
• Monitor and redirect student behavior following approved procedures.
• Supervise students on playground, during snacks, lunch, and field trips.
• Perform clerical duties and maintain simple records.
• Support teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and distributing supplies.
• Provide guidance and emotional support to students and communicate with staff.
• Meet with the Preschool Lead to discuss programs and materials for student needs.
• Ensure health and safety of students by following all rules.
• Participate in meetings and professional development.
