Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 12 ECE/Child Development units.
  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher required.
  • Experience with preschool-aged children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lessons and instructional materials as directed.
  • Administer assessments and record observational data.
  • Monitor and redirect student behavior following approved procedures.
  • Supervise students on playground, during snacks, lunch, and field trips.
  • Perform clerical duties and maintain simple records.
  • Support teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and distributing supplies.
  • Provide guidance and emotional support to students and communicate with staff.
  • Meet with the Preschool Lead to discuss programs and materials for student needs.
  • Ensure health and safety of students by following all rules.

Vacancies are part time 18.75-23.75 hours per week, 9.5 months per year

Shift Hours: 2:15pm-6:00pm-2 Vacancies

Shift Hours: 11:15-4:30pm-2 vacancies

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of site administrator or CDC Coordinator, assist the Preschool Lead or classroom teacher in planning, organizing and implementing approved developmentally appropriate curriculum for the development of children enrolled in the preschool Child Development Center (CDC) and/or the Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) programs; provide a safe and nurturing environment conducive to the growth and development of children.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • 1. Assist individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the Preschool Lead/classroom teacher.
  • 2. Prepare lessons as directed by the Preschool Lead/classroom teacher
  • 3. Administer assessments and record observational data
  • 4. Observe and redirect behavior of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  • 5. Monitor students on the playground, during snack or lunch time, during parent meetings and on field trips.
  • 6. Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparation and duplication of instructional materials, scoring papers, recording grades, taking roll, and maintaining records and files.
  • 7. Provide support to Preschool Lead/classroom teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
  • 8. Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  • 9. Confer, as needed, with Preschool Lead/classroom teacher concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • 10. Assure the health and safety of students by following all health and safety rules.
  • 11. Direct group activities of students as assigned; assist volunteers as necessary.
  • 12. Participate in meetings and professional development as assigned.
  • 13. Set up snack and lunch for students; clean up after snack and lunch.
  • 14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations.
  • Basic subjects taught in the District schools.

  • Supervise and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Operate instructional and office equipment.
  • Assist with the instructional and related activities of the assigned learning environment.
  • Learn the procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.
  • Work effectively within a team, coordinating with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners to complete tasks, achieve goals, and resolve issues in a collaborative and efficient manner.

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion and a minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development college coursework, including core courses (child/human growth & development; child/family/community or child and family relations; and early childhood programs and or curriculum).

  • A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher is also required.

EXPERIENCE

At least fifty (50) days of 3+ hours per day within two (2) years working with preschool aged children in an organized classroom setting.

  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
