Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a part-time lifeguard to monitor the pool area, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies in accordance with YMCA procedures. The role involves maintaining records, performing equipment checks, and ensuring chemical safety when not guarding.

Qualifications

• Must be a certified lifeguard.
• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Reviews emergency procedures and responds immediately per YMCA policies, and completes related reports.
• Responds to challenges with timely solutions.
• Applies safety rules for the pool and aquatic area consistently.
• Remains calm under pressure and objective when challenged.
• Maintains accurate records as required by YMCA/state health codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures needed equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazards on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
