Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a Lifeguard to keep members and guests safe in a fun, values-based environment. You will monitor aquatics areas, respond to emergencies, and help foster an inclusive atmosphere for all patrons.

Qualifications include current YMCA Lifeguarding or equivalent, Red Cross CPR/First Aid, and being at least 15 years old. All required certifications are provided by the Y. Training and safety protocols ensure a secure pool setting.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Lifeguarding, Red Cross Lifeguard Training, or Boy Scouts of America Lifeguarding required.
• Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid required.
• Must be knowledgeable about all of the pool rules and regulations as stated in the Lifeguard Manual.
• Must be at least 15 years old.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and well-being of aquatics participants through preventative lifeguarding and by staying alert to danger areas.
• Follow established pool guarding positions and designated zones.
• Enforce safety procedures and rules of conduct to maintain a safe environment.
• Maintain a rescue ready position with rescue tube, lifeguard attire, whistle, and nametag.
• Be familiar with center activities and shift routines.
• Maintain vigilance in scanning and avoid distractions during shifts.
• Monitor chemical readings when the pool is empty or during shift changes.
• Do not leave the deck unattended while on shift.
• Know and follow the Emergency Action Plan and assist first responders as needed.
• Keep pool area neat and free of clutter and complete required paperwork.
