Job summary

Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater, OK is seeking a Plumbing Instructor to deliver high-quality classroom and hands-on instruction in the plumbing apprenticeship program. The instructor will align lessons with industry standards, codes, and employer needs while maintaining a safe learning environment.

The role requires an Oklahoma Journeyman Plumbing License, a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least three years of journeyman experience, with preference for experience supervising

  • Experience supervising apprentices or leading crews is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional lessons and hands-on activities for apprentices.
  • Establish clear objectives for lessons and lab activities.
  • Create a learning environment that promotes student success.
  • Present curriculum related to plumbing theory, systems, and codes.
  • Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, and industry procedures.
  • Evaluate progress through skill observation and assessments; document outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment following OSHA guidelines.
  • Assist learners in understanding licensing requirements and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and document student attendance.
  • Maintain records of student/apprentice files with staff.
  • Collaborate with employers and partners to reflect current practices.
  • Maintain program equipment and inventory; request stock as needed.
  • Maintain licensure and continuing education per standards.
  • Utilize work time efficiently on campus.
  • Support and model Meridian Technology Center’s standards of excellence.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by leadership.
  • Live out MTC’s Mission, Vision and Values in daily work.

JOB SUMMARY

The Plumbing Instructor delivers high-quality classroom and hands‑on instruction to apprentices and students enrolled in the plumbing apprenticeship training program. The instructor provides instruction aligned to industry standards, relevant codes, and employer needs while fostering a safe and engaging learning environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional lessons and hands‑on activities that facilitate learning experiences and support apprentice or trainee learning outcomes.

2. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all instructional lessons and hands‑on lab activities.

3. Create and maintain a rich learning environment that promotes student success.

4. Present curriculum related to plumbing, including plumbing theory, piping systems, drainage systems, water supply systems, blueprint reading, code compliance, etc.

5. Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and industry‑related procedures.

6. Evaluate, measure, and document progress through skill observation, curriculum assessments, practical demonstrations, and student‑led projects.

7. Ensure a safe learning environment by modeling and enforcing industry‑related safety practices and OSHA guidelines.

8. Assist apprentices and students in understanding licensing requirements, apprentice responsibilities, and governing rules of the Construction Industries Board.

9. Monitor and document student attendance.

10. Assist apprenticeship training staff in maintaining accurate and complete records of student/apprentice files.

11. Collaborate effectively with employers, apprenticeship sponsors, industry partners, fellow instructors, and apprenticeship training staff to ensure training reflects current industry practices, technologies, and code requirements.

12. Assist apprenticeship training staff in maintaining program equipment, monitoring supply inventory, and requesting stock as needed.

13. Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education, including compliance with current plumbing code, in accordance with industry and Construction Industries Board standards.

14. Utilize work time efficiently on campus during designated work hours.

17. Complete other tasks or projects as requested by the Apprenticeship Training Coordinator, Director of Apprenticeship Training, the Executive Director of Instruction, and the Superintendent/CEO.
