Job summary

The City of La Mirada is seeking a Planning Technician to support current and long-range planning efforts. Under supervision, you will handle zoning information, review routine planning applications, prepare reports, maps, and notices, and assist customers at the counter and by phone or email.

You will work with professional planning staff, perform research, and support community outreach and public meetings. Evening or weekend attendance may be required occasionally.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in urban planning or related field preferred.
• Exposure to zoning and land use concepts is a plus; familiarity with GIS is beneficial.
• Able to assist customers and support planning staff with routine tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide information on zoning, land use, and development standards at the public counter and by phone/email.
• Review routine planning applications and permits for completeness and compliance.
• Assist with research, maps, graphics, and public notices for staff reports and meetings.
• Support community outreach and attendance at public meetings as needed.
• Maintain planning division records and assist with administrative duties.
