Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Phlebotomist for a part-time, 24 hours per week, first shift position at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. The role focuses on venipuncture collection, specimen processing, and interfacing with lab and medical staff to ensure accurate test results.

The ideal candidate provides excellent customer service, adheres to AIDET communication standards, and works well within a team dedicated to putting patients first.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or CMA certification, or one+ year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
• Familiar with medical EMR systems.
• Experience with processing lab specimens and handling a centrifuge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections according to age-related standards and policies.
• Demonstrates patient communication model (AIDET) to ensure patient safety.
• Receives and reviews physician orders; enters accurate orders for lab tests.
• Includes phlebotomy-related clerical duties and coordinating with lab operations.
• Maintains safety and proper biohazard waste procedures in the work area.
