Job summary

Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) Richmond campus is seeking a Part-Time Peer Tutor to support students in the Learning Center. The tutor will assist with tutoring in core courses, study skills, and time management, and help in the Learning Center computer lab.

Applicants must be enrolled at WCJC, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have completed a college English or Algebra course with a grade of B or higher.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current enrollment (or continued enrollment) at WCJC.
• Completion of a college English or Algebra course with a grade of B or higher.
• Ability to relate to students and adapt explanations to diverse learning styles.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Brightspace LMS.

General Description

Multiple daytime positions located on the WCJC Richmond campus.

The Part-Time Peer Tutor will work closely with the Learning Center Facilitator and staff to provide a positive and welcoming educational environment for students.

The Peer Tutor provides student tutoring/assistance in core courses, study skills, and time management.

The Peer Tutor assists in the Learning Center computer lab as well as provides other services offered in the Center.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, and candidates will be considered as departmental needs arise.

Requirements

This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.

This position requires current enrollment (or continued enrollment) at WCJC.

This position requires completion of a college English or Algebra course with a letter grade no lower than a B.

This position requires the ability to relate to students and present content in a variety of ways to accommodate the diverse learning styles of students.

Strong technical skills that include experience with an online Learning Management System such as Brightspace and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, along with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of student populations.

A criminal background check is required.
