Job summary

North Shore Community College is seeking a Part-Time Peer Tutor for Fall 2026 at the Lynn campus. This non-benefited role offers about 8 hours per week and supports students in tutoring centers as described in the general duties.

Tutors conduct individual and small-group sessions in Writing, Business, Engineering, Accounting, Economics, and may pursue Tutor Certification. CORI/SORI or a National background check is required.

Qualifications

• Recent B+ or higher grade from NSCC in assigned tutoring courses.
• Endorsement (recommendation) of a faculty member for each subject tutored.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Cooperates and works well with both peers and supervisors.
• Demonstrate qualities of patience and empathy; respect for students of all genders, gender identities, cultural/ethnic backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
• Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
• Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Attend embedded tutoring class if assigned.
• Meet with students individually or in a small group as appropriate.
• Provide tutorial assistance in specified subject area(s), including study and academic success skills.
• Offer referrals to tutoring, Academic Advising, Financial Services, Accessibility Services, and other support services.
• Create Navigate system records of student attendance and learning progress.
• Escalate any concerns about a tutoring student to supervisor.
• Attend required tutor training sessions and staff meetings throughout the semester.
• Assist students in making appointments and logging in/out of center.
• Visit classes to promote tutoring services.
• Tutor students in area(s) of expertise.
• Perform other duties as necessary and as requested by the supervisor.

Work Schedule: Varies; approximately 8 per week.

SALARY:$17.30per hour,This is a non-benefited position.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The mission of North Shore Community College's Tutoring Centers is to support the learning efforts of the students, faculty teaching, and the larger goals within each program of study.

Tutoring is an academic support strategy which seeks to increase the probability of academic success. Peer tutors will conduct individual and, on occasion, small-group tutoring sessions in specified subject areas.Tutors also participate in required training sessions and have the opportunity to earn Tutor Certification. Tutors who earn Certification can apply, at no cost, for Credit for Prior Leaning for CMP150: Technical Writing (Composition 2), SPE102: (Speech) and SPE106 (Interpersonal Communications). Current subject area needs include but may not be limited to Writing, Business, Engineering, Accounting, Economics.
