Comunilife in Brooklyn, NY is seeking part-time Peer/Bridge Mentors to support program participants recovering from homelessness, substance use, and mental illness. The role provides emotional support, companionship, and opportunities to share lived experience through mentor training and ongoing guidance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
• Personal experience with homelessness, substance use and/or mental illness is valued.
• Ability to form relationships and influence others in a positive direction.

Responsibilities

• Assist outreach, engagement, and acculturation of program participants with mental illness, homelessness, and substance use.
• Provide crisis intervention services and supportive counseling to reduce self-destructive behaviors.
• Build self-esteem by engaging participants in activities and accompanying them to view apartments or appointments.
• Encourage participants to learn about and access community supports.
• Use Peer Mentor Training to promote health, sobriety, or harm reduction outcomes.
• Assist clients in learning daily living skills.
• Collaborate with case management staff on client needs.
• Conduct groups to promote socialization and recovery.
• Document interactions and progress.
