Part -Time Peer Coach (14 hours per week)

Join us as a Part-Time Peer Coach (14 hours per week) at Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc.

Position Overview

We are seeking empathetic and motivated Peer Coaches to join our Behavioral Health Call Center team. As a Peer Coach, you will leverage your lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide hope, support, and encouragement to individuals seeking assistance. Your role is vital in creating a compassionate, non-judgmental environment, guiding callers, and connecting them with resources to support their recovery journey. This position supports the mission of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

• Answer inbound calls and provide peer-to-peer support to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges.
• Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and demonstrate the possibility of wellness and recovery.
• Listen actively, validate feelings, and encourage exploration of recovery options.
• Serve as a role model, mentor, and advocate to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
• Assist callers in identifying and connecting with community resources, support groups, and recovery services.
• Build trusting relationships with clients based on mutuality and positive regard during outreach and community meetings.
• Help de-escalate emotionally charged situations with calm and empathetic responses.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Personal experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use recovery
• At least two (2) years’ work or volunteer experience in a recovery-oriented setting
• Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-Provisional for designated OASAS programs or New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) or NYCPS for designated OMH programs
• Knowledge of substance use disorder recovery process
• Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
• Commitment to recovery-oriented systems of care
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and follow procedures
• Expected to obtain dual certification for mental health and substance use disorders within a year of hire, with initial certification costs covered by RCDMH

Work Schedule

• Sunday and Monday
• 9AM-5PM or 8AM-4PM

Compensation

$21.97 to $27.47 per hour
