Job summary

UNM Hospital is seeking a part-time Patient Transport Assistant to provide safe, timely patient transportation across departments under the Patient Transport team. You will cross-train as dispatcher and support non-patient pick-up and delivery needs while adhering to hospital policies.

Responsibilities include transporting patients, communicating with nurses and staff, maintaining sign-in sheets, and following safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Bilingual English/ASL; 6 months' relevant experience.
• Nurse aide or patient transporter experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to and from requesting areas; follow safety measures.
• Complete tasks timely per department policies and procedures.
• Obtain essential information from Nurse regarding patient condition.
• Inform patients of transport reason and promote learning.
• Inform staff that patient is ready for transport.
• Maintain unit sign-in/sign-out sheets.
• Follow hospital, nursing, and departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintain and use equipment safely and properly.
• Use telephone and pager system for communications.
• Model professionalism; participate in training of new staff.
• Resolve conflicts constructively; promote positive interactions.
• Support patient safety by following policies and reporting concerns.
