Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; previous patient registration experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, EMTALA, insurance verification processes and ABN documentation preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.

Patient Access Representative / Patient Registration Specialist
Professional Summary

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for delivering a compassionate, professional, and seamless patient experience throughout the registration, admission, and intake process. This role serves as a critical link between patients and clinical teams by ensuring accurate patient registration, insurance verification, documentation management, regulatory compliance, and financial counseling. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional customer service, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, CMS, and other regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a compassionate, professional, and efficient patient experience by completing registrations, admissions, and bedside registrations while verifying demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Assess patient needs during registration, promptly alert clinical staff to urgent situations, and escort or direct patients to the appropriate care area.
  • Ensure accurate account creation and maintenance through timely documentation, order entry, work queue management, account updates, scanning, and record maintenance.
  • Verify patient identity, issue and validate armbands, collect co-pays when appropriate, and maintain compliance with EMTALA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Present and obtain signatures for required patient forms, including Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABNs), Advance Directives, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Workers’ Compensation, and Labor & Industries documentation.
  • Coordinate patient admissions, bed assignments, transfers, Diagnostic Imaging orders, and ancillary testing requests while collaborating with nursing units and other departments.
  • Protect patient demographic, medical, and financial information by maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA, CMS, JCAHO, COBRA, EMTALA, and organizational policies.
  • Resolve patient service concerns, support Information Desk operations as needed, maintain productivity and schedule adherence standards, and contribute to a positive, patient-centered healthcare environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; previous patient registration, patient access, healthcare customer service, medical office, or hospital admissions experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, insurance verification processes, managed care payors, Medicare Secondary Payor requirements, EMTALA, and ABN documentation preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, providers, and healthcare staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and quality standards.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR), registration systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other healthcare technology tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and teamwork skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve or escalation issues appropriately, and support a patient-centered care environment.

  • Sunday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Thursday: 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Friday: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Week 2
  • Thursday: 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Friday: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Saturday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Position 2 – Part-Time (24 Hours Per Week)

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
