Job summary

UCLA Extension in Los Angeles seeks an instructor for the Pathway program, teaching 2 classes per week (Mon/Wed or Fri), roughly 2–5 hours weekly. The role is in-person with 10–15 students, provided syllabus content, with option to expand lessons.

Responsibilities include syllabi, student engagement, grades, and admin tasks. The ideal candidate will use Canvas, deliver inclusive teaching, and coordinate with Program Director and Program Manager.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Ability to employ culturally competent teaching methodologies and inclusive teaching strategies.

Responsibilities

• Complete required compliance trainings by deadlines set by Human Resources.
• Develop or update course syllabus to meet campus approval requirements, in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director and Program Manager.
• Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources appropriately.
• Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants.
• Update materials periodically and monitor course evaluations to improve curriculum.
• Utilize Canvas as the course support platform for in-person and online/hybrid courses.
• Post final student grades to the transcript system no later than 2 weeks after course end date.
• Respond to student questions within 24 hours.
• Communicate with Program Director and Program Staff promptly.
• Complete administrative tasks including new hire paperwork, syllabus updates, bio/photo on UCLA Extension site, contract, textbook orders, and classroom needs.
• Participate in orientations and instructor training programs.
• Share academic or behavioral concerns with the Program Director in a timely manner.
