Job summary

New Mexico Highlands University is seeking a Paleomagnetic-rock magnetic laboratory technician to join the department of Natural Resources Management (Geology) on the Las Vegas campus. The role supports the operation of a modern paleomagnetic laboratory and contributes to student-oriented research services for national and international clients.

Responsibilities include conducting analyses, maintaining logs, updating literature databases, managing confidential information, and establishing GIS

Qualifications

• Enrolled at NMHU in Earth Sciences or closely related field.
• Proven research lab experience and ability to operate complex lab equipment.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety protocol and geophysical lab operations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct analyses using all laboratory instruments following extensive training by the lab manager and standard lab preparation of samples.
• Maintain a daily log of YOUR research activities.
• Managing confidential information.
• Updating the on-line literature database on specific projects as needed.
• Establish and maintain a GIS database of studies conducted in the laboratory.
• Perform other job duties as assigned
