The Part-Time/On-Call Firefighter position is responsible for protecting life and property from fire and other emergencies. Responsibilities include applying fire suppression methods, performing rescues, inspections, public education, responding to emergency calls, and providing immediate medical care. Assistance to neighboring communities and routine station duties are also required.

Essential Functions

• Maintain effective relations with customers and community engagement.
• Respond to fire alarms and emergencies, extinguish fires, rescue individuals, and create ventilation openings.
• Administer emergency medical care, respond to paged calls, and work standby/duty as needed.
• Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, stations, and grounds.
• Attend training, participate in drills, and perform as driver/operator of fire apparatus.
• Respond to medical calls, conduct safety inspections, and participate in public education.
• Perform various public safety tasks, including nuisance follow-up and animal control.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to perform in accordance with CIVIC values and support city priorities.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years old on appointment.
• Successful completion of physical and psychological evaluations, background check, and valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• Ability to respond within 8 minutes to a fire station.

Desired Qualifications

• Completion of Minnesota Firefighter I course.
• Medical training such as First Responder or EMT.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to wear SCBA and perform physically demanding tasks including crawling, lifting, climbing, and working in extreme conditions.
• Meet vision, hearing, smell, and speech standards per DOT and OSHA.
• Capable of lifting heavy weights, walking, crawling, and working in confined spaces.
• Work involves personal danger, outdoor and indoor environments, and exposure to various hazards and weather conditions.
