Job summary

Marquette University College of Nursing in Milwaukee seeks a Nurse Tutor Specialist (NTS) to provide supplemental academic support to students in Project BEYOND-2, addressing educational and health access challenges. The NTS will conduct tutoring for nursing courses, develop study skills resources, and collaborate with mentors, the Project Coordinator, and teaching staff to support student success.

Qualifications

• BSN degree and WI RN licensure required.
• Approximately 6 months of RN practice since graduation to reinforce content.
• Knowledge of nursing content and science courses to reinforce learning.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral and written).
• Commitment to high-quality instruction for undergraduate students in a diverse environment.
• Respect for a diverse environment including various backgrounds.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
• Willingness to learn and implement software available to enhance learning.

Responsibilities

• Consult with small groups and individual students to identify needs and provide resources.
• Supplement understanding of course material outside of class.
• Maintain knowledge of course material and diverse instructional methods.
• Conduct tutoring sessions in-person or virtual for nursing courses with study strategies.
• Help students develop time management and exam strategies.
• Meet with students at appointed times, in-person or virtual.
• Maintain documentation of student interactions and progress notes.
• Create supplemental instructional materials (handouts, slides).
• Evaluate resources to support student success and collaborate with faculty.
• Provide instructors with information to facilitate student learning.
• Hold special study sessions with approval from Project Coordinator.
• Learn and implement software available to enhance learning.
• Assist students in using Office 365, D2L, and teaching aids.
• Take initiative and grow in the NTS role.
• Engage in ongoing training with the Project Coordinator.
• Assist project staff with Open Houses and recruitment.
• Perform other related duties as required.
