Job description

The Notetaker/Captionist reports to the Coordinator of Hearing Loss Services and provides academic support services that promote equal access for students with disabilities.

This part-time position offers up to 18 hours per week and requires flexibility to support a variety of classroom and testing environments.

  • Provide real-time note-taking services in classroom, lecture, and laboratory settings.
  • Deliver transcription and copy-typing services as requested.
  • Create and edit closed captions for audiovisual materials.
  • Provide test-reading and test-proctoring services in accordance with approved accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional support services to students with varying accessibility needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure effective delivery of accommodations.

  • Ability to provide high-quality notetaking and captioning services for students with diverse disabilities in a postsecondary educational environment.
  • Proficiency in using computers and standard office software applications.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Individual Contributor

Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in an indoor setting. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the department.

Physical Demands: May remain seated for extended periods of time. Repetitive hand motion

Travel Required: No

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Required Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with disability accommodations. Job Training (upon hiring) required

Additional Job-Specific Requirements

English language proficiency required; candidate must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
