Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York’s Harlem location seeks a New Americans Initiative Instructor to develop curricula aligned with adult learning principles and teach ESOL, HSE/ABE, Citizenship, Technology, and other classes. Responsibilities include assessments, attendance, and data entry. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum of one year of English teaching experience.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Ability to work in a team and build positive relationships with participants and partners.
• Knowledge of adult literacy principles and lesson planning.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum development for ESOL, HSE/ABE, Citizenship, Technology, or other classes.
• Teach assigned classes to build student skills and confidence.
• Complete student assessments and maintain files.
• Manage attendance and data entry in relevant databases.
• Pre- and post-test students using Best Plus testing.
• Support programming through outreach and events.
