Job summary

The Flushing YMCA is seeking a New Americans Initiative Instructor to develop curricula aligned with adult learning principles, facilitate classes in ESOL, HSE/ABE, Citizenship, Technology, or other assigned classes, and evaluate student progress within the New American Initiative.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s in Education preferred) with at least one year of English teaching experience; bilingual ability is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• A Master’s Degree in Education is preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience teaching English.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Develop curricula aligned with adult learning principles and educational gains.
• Facilitate classes in ESOL, HSE/ABE, Citizenship, Technology, and other assigned areas.
• Evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback.
• Support programs within the New American Initiative.

• Knowledge of civic education, immigration legal services, and case management, is preferred.
• Knowledge of Best Plus Testing is preferred.
• Must be a self‑starter, highly organized, patient, and able to work well with others.
