Responsibilities and Duties

WHO/WHAT: There are some things you forget about having a newborn. How tiny the diapers are. How much laundry one very small person can create. How strangely exciting a good nap can become. And then there are the things you remember forever—like having an incredible nanny beside you for that first year. A few years ago, we had the privilege of helping this family find their first nanny, who cared for their daughter until she was ready for daycare. It worked beautifully. Their nanny loved working for them, they loved having her, and their daughter eventually made the transition to daycare, where she's now thriving, making friends, and becoming a very fun big sister. With baby boy arriving October, Mom and Dad have decided: let's do that again.

They're hoping to find a nanny who can join them in early to mid-January and stick around for the wonderfully sweet, occasionally sleepy, blink-and-you-miss-it first year. Ideally, you'll be with them through the end of 2027 or early 2028.

Your days will be wonderfully baby-centered: snuggles, bottles, tummy time, books, neighborhood walks, songs, naps, milestones, and eventually following a newly mobile human around wondering how he got over there THAT fast. As he gets older, outings to local parks, libraries, and museums are welcome! You'll also help with baby laundry, bottles, pump parts, and keeping his spaces stocked and organized. Big sister will normally be at daycare, although if she's home sick or school is closed, Mom and Dad would appreciate some flexibility to lend an extra hand. Both parents work from home, but they've done the WFH + nanny thing before and know that nobody benefits from Mom and Dad appearing every time the baby makes a peep. Their finished basement has its own kitchen and living area and will essentially be yours and baby's during the day. They'll be upstairs working; you'll have plenty of room to settle into your own rhythm downstairs.

And if you LOVE a good baby routine, keep reading. This is a family that appreciates consistency. Their first nanny quickly helped establish a predictable nap schedule, and it was a game changer. They're not expecting a newborn to operate like a tiny employee with a Google Calendar, but they do believe routines are good for babies—and pretty great for adults too. They'd love someone who enjoys watching baby's cues, creating healthy sleep habits, and finding a rhythm that makes everyone's days run a little more smoothly. Their last nanny was kind, open and direct. They'd much rather have a nanny who does the same. No guessing games. No quietly letting something bother you for six weeks. Ask the question. Share the idea. Talk it through. Move on. They want a relationship where everyone feels comfortable communicating.

THE IDEAL NANNY IS…

RELIABLE WITH A SIDE OF SILLY. You have meaningful infant experience and enough time under your belt to feel confident taking charge of a baby's day. You don't need 20 years of experience, but this probably isn't the role where you'll learn the basics for the first time. You're dependable. Consistent. Mature. When you commit to something, people can count on you.

You're also warm, affectionate, and willing to be a little ridiculous. You'll sing the song. Make the animal noise. Celebrate a successful roll like he just won an Olympic medal. You understand that some of the most important work you'll do all day may look an awful lot like lying on the floor making faces at a baby. You're comfortable with parents working from home and confident enough that you don't need them to disappear in order to do your job well. You appreciate independence, communicate when you need something, and genuinely enjoy becoming a trusted part of a family's everyday life.

One of the best things about this role? This family already knows the magic of a great nanny. They know how to trust you, give you room to shine, and make you feel like an important part of the team—even when daycare is eventually part of the plan. Baby boy arrives this fall, which means the tiny diapers, sleepy snuggles, first smiles, first foods, wobbly steps, and approximately one million bottles are about to begin. And you could be there for all of it.
