Responsibilities and Duties

WHO/WHAT: First things first: you should probably know about the rulebook. It's an unofficial, ever-growing collection of rules Dad has been creating since his son was little. #32: Be kind. #76: You can never go wrong if you do the right thing. Some are serious, some are probably invented on the spot, and his six-year-old has grown up quoting them right back. It tells you a lot about these two.

Dad has full custody of one witty, creative, super-sharp six-year-old who loves soccer, reading, nature, swimming, abstract art, making movies, and filming rap videos for his very-real-in-his-mind “YouTube channel” (and we’re all committed to keeping the quotation marks a secret). He's easygoing, independent, happiest being silly with his friends, and—despite Dad's best efforts to introduce better music—still keeping Old Town Road in heavy rotation. Dad and son are also known to freestyle rap, so car rap battles are fair game anytime the vibe is right.

School ends around 3:45 pm, and afternoons have a comfortable rhythm: snack, homework, play, dinner, bath, and winding down with a book. Dad would love someone who appreciates both sides of childhood—the adventures and the quiet connection. Get outside. Kick the soccer ball. Make something. Head to the pool. Invite a friend over. Turn an ordinary Tuesday into a mini adventure. Summers keep a similar rhythm—just swap the school bus for camp pickup. Dad asks that the nanny have their own car, although he’s not opposed to purchasing an extra vehicle in the future.

But here's the bigger picture: Dad isn't simply looking for after-school coverage. He's building a village. He's a single father and deeply committed to giving his son a childhood that feels steady, connected, and full of people who show up. He wants someone who can help life run smoothly so that when he walks through the door, he can spend more time simply being Dad. That's where the 32 guaranteed hours come in. Before the school bus arrives, you'll help with light dinner prep, dishes, tidying, vacuuming or sweeping, errands, and getting the house reset for the evening. A housekeeper handles the deep cleaning and laundry, so think less “housekeeper” and more “make life easier before a six-year-old comes flying through the door.” There’s talk of adding a furry family member (the hypoallergenic dog-type) later this year, so help with letting them into the fenced‑in yard for potty breaks and occasional feedings would be ideal.

Dad is flexible and hopes to build the schedule around the right person. He’d love someone who can occasionally help with school closures, evenings, weekend time, summer camp pickups, and maybe even join them on a family vacation or business trip.

The IDEAL NANNY IS…THE KIND OF GROWN‑UP EVERY SIX‑YEAR‑OLD NEEDS IN THEIR CORNER. You're nurturing, fun, creative, communicative, and incredibly dependable. You genuinely enjoy kids this age—you'll kick the soccer ball, listen to the elaborate story, and jump into a car rap battle. But you also know when it's time to switch gears and get homework done, dinner on the table, and everyone settled for the evening. You're proactive without taking over, confident without being rigid, and comfortable becoming another steady adult in a child's life. You appreciate routines, show up when you say you will, and don't need a detailed list to notice what needs to happen next.

Most importantly, you're looking for somewhere to stay. Dad anticipates needing support for years to come—potentially into his son's high school years. He's hoping to find someone who's there for soccer seasons and summer camps, changing interests, bigger homework, and bigger conversations. Someone who eventually knows the family rulebook by heart—and sticks around long enough to help write a few new rules.

Starting with #77: When you find a great nanny, keep them.
