The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is seeking a detail-oriented individual to digitally image objects in the collection, primarily through DSLR photography on a part-time basis. This role supports the digital asset management of the collection and helps make images accessible for the database, archives, website, and publications.

Ideal candidates will operate professional cameras, manage image metadata, and maintain color accuracy across formats.

Qualifications

  • Operate professional digital cameras, scanners and accessories to photograph museum objects.
  • Knowledge of best practices in object handling or willingness to train in them.
  • Demonstrated image editing and deployment experience.
  • Working knowledge of image metadata and color management.
  • Portfolio/website of current photography.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Photograph three-dimensional works of art and other collection objects with a digital camera.
  • Prepare color-accurate image files for archiving, print, and electronic reproduction.
  • Plan composition and select technical approaches to generate preservation-grade images.
  • Minimize risk to artworks during photography.
  • Utilize professional digital camera systems including studio lighting setups.
  • Save photography to the Museum's server and backups for archival integrity.
