Job summary

The City of Orlando Careers is seeking a part-time Teacher/Mentor to provide academic tutoring, mentoring, and SEL activities for middle school students in the Bubble Kids Program. You will help students improve academic performance, emotional regulation, decision-making, and healthy peer relationships under the supervision of the Program Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and current Florida teacher certification required.
• One year of experience working with youth in an educational, recreation, mentoring, youth development, after-school, community-based, or related setting required; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
• Experience working with middle school youth preferred. Knowledge of or experience with SEL, youth mentoring, trauma-informed practices, positive youth development, behavioral support, or substance-use prevention preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group academic tutoring and support.
• Assist students with study skills, organization, goal setting, and school engagement.
• Facilitate age appropriate SEL activities focused on self-awareness, emotional regulation, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills.
• Serve as a positive adult mentor and build consistent, supportive relationships with participating youth.
• Facilitate prevention-focused activities that promote healthy choices, resiliency, and positive peer relationships.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of participation and student progress.
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and appropriate standards of conduct.
• Participate in required training, program meetings, and professional development.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
