You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, monitor behaviors, document observations, and refer individuals to services as needed. The position requires flexibility, dependable transportation, and a commitment to high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Texas driver's license required.
• Reliable transportation required.
• Completion of required trainings (SAMA, CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving, Van Driving).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and supervise adults experiencing acute mental health symptoms.
• Assist in preventing behavioral escalation and support crisis intervention efforts.
• Encourage individuals to participate in treatment services and daily activities.
• Assist individuals with activities of daily living as needed.
• Observe, document, and report individual behaviors and conditions.
• Support a safe and therapeutic treatment environment.
• Transport individuals to medical or community-based services when necessary.
• Provide services in accordance with Burke and Medicaid standards and requirements.

About the Role

Burke is seeking a compassionate and dependable Part-Time Mental Health Specialist to support individuals experiencing mental health crises within the Extended Observation and Crisis Residential Units at the Mental Health Emergency Center in Lufkin, TX.

This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for adults with mental illness. The program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and staff may be scheduled on an as-needed basis to assist with unit coverage.

Successful candidates will demonstrate emotional maturity, flexibility, professionalism, strong communication skills, and sound judgment.

What You'll Do

What You Need

Required

• Driving record that meets Burke's insurance requirements.
• Ability to successfully complete required training, including Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving, Van Driving, and other required training modules.

Preferred

• Experience working with adults with mental illness.

Physical Requirements

This position requires walking and standing for extended periods, driving a vehicle, and sufficient hand and finger dexterity to perform job duties. Must have effective communication, hearing, and vision abilities and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
