Job summary

Vernon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Memory Care Unit seeks a Therapeutic Recreation Staff member for part-time weekend hours (every other weekend, 9am–5pm). Experience in memory care within a recreation setting is required.

The role supports implementation of a therapeutic recreation program to improve residents' quality of life, under the supervision of the Director of Recreation Services, with duties including planing activities, documentation, and resident engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience with Memory Care environment required.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English; follow oral and written instructions; strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of word processing and Microsoft Office; helpful with office equipment.
• Ability to work hours as scheduled based on position requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and conducts specialized group activities to motivate and improve residents' quality of life.
• Works at resident’s bedside with specially designed activities.
• Conducts one-on-one activities and sensory stimulation for less-engaged residents.
• Documents resident participation and progress.
• Assists with supply inventory and planning of purchases for the department.
• Assists with transportation of residents to program areas.
• Assists with supervision during outings.
• Assists with writing, typing, and assembling the monthly newsletter.
• Documents assessments, care plans, and participates in care conferences.
