Job summary

You will operate instruments, perform crossmatching, interpret stains, and ensure quality control, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This is a part-time, varied schedule requiring certification and licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a BS degree and specialized training to obtain certification as a Medical Technologist and licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Familiarity with medical terminology is required.
• Basic computer literacy is required.
• Experience with Windows, word-processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and databases is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Blood Bank: Perform crossmatching techniques; apply problem-solving skills and judgment in dealing with antibody challenges; understand indications for transfusion and ensure proper action before releasing products that do not meet criteria; demonstrate knowledge of Quality Systems for good blood bank practices.
• Chemistry and Hematology: Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation; apply knowledge of Quality Control processes; maintain competency and assist the Core Lab Supervisor with additional tasks.
• Microbiology: Conduct routine collection, inoculation, and processing of all specimen types; prepare and promptly interpret stains and smears according to departmental procedures.
