Job summary

Rhode Island Blood Center in Providence seeks a part-time Medical Director to provide medical directorship for the technical and clinical operations of our blood center laboratories, with 8 hours on-site weekly.

The role requires MD/DO with board certification in Clinical Pathology, Hematology, or Pediatric Hematology plus Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and multi-state licenses including NY. Responsibilities include staff guidance, policy reviews, teaching, and QA responsibilities.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with board certification in Clinical Pathology, Hematology, or Pediatric Hematology + Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.
• Medical licenses in RI, MA, CT and NY; NY State Laboratory Director CQ and NYS Technical Director CQ.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in transfusion services or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical directorship for technical and clinical operations of the blood center laboratories.
• Support and guide collections staff and hospitals; teach and quality-improve initiatives.
• Develop and review medical policies; participate in policy development and approval.
• Answer donor and hospital questions on medical criteria; supervise donor activities.
• Lead on-site and remote collaboration with NYBCe; ensure compliance and QA.
