Job summary

American Family Care in Nashville is seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant to support urgent care centers. You will blend clinical tasks with front desk duties, including patient check-in, vitals, venipuncture, and basic testing.

You’ll verify insurance, explain costs, and maintain EMR accuracy while upholding HIPAA standards. The role requires completion of an accredited MA program, national certification at hire, and BLS.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA, etc.), assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on both clinical procedures and financial expectations, provide clear discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, etc.), support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
