Job summary

Tidewater Community College is seeking a Part-Time Professional Tutor for the Open Door Project - Math in Norfolk. You will provide individual and group tutoring in math, using technology tools to promote independent learning and study strategies.

Responsibilities include tutoring across developmental math to pre-calculus (including trigonometry), maintaining tutoring records, and collaborating with advisors and instructors to tailor student support. Evening/weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have completed at least 60 credits with a B average or better in the content area or related subject area.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work with a diverse student population.
• Ability to adjust tutoring methods to meet various learning styles.
• Math tutors should be proficient in concepts from developmental mathematics to pre-calculus, including trigonometry.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in math disciplines and encourage a systematic approach to studying.
• Maintain regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using the appropriate forms.
• Meet with Academic Skills Advisor and instructors to plan academic support for students.
• Refer students to campus resources as needed; assist with other duties as assigned.
