Job summary

Sylvan Learning is seeking a Part-Time Academic Instructor/Tutor to support students in mathematics across elementary to high school levels. The role involves delivering engaging, structured math instruction using Sylvan’s curriculum or classroom work, with shifts primarily after school and on Saturdays.

The ideal candidate will have strong math knowledge, the ability to explain steps clearly, and experience working with children or teens.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of the mathematics levels you wish to teach.
• Ability to explain each step clearly.
• Experience working with children or teenagers.
• Consistent availability during the required instructional hours.
• Reliable transportation to the center.
• Ability to follow established curriculum and center procedures.
• Ability to complete applicable background screening requirements, per state/local law.

Responsibilities

• Provide engaging math instruction individually or in groups up to four students.
• Teach concepts based on your areas of expertise.
• Help students with classwork, homework, and challenging problems.
• Prepare students for tests and assessments.
• Follow Sylvan’s curriculum and preplanned lessons.
• Demonstrate effective problem‑solving strategies.
• Adapt explanations to each student’s grade level and needs.
• Encourage students and build confidence in mathematics.
• Document progress and complete instructional notes.
• Use tablets and instructional technology as required.
• Complete Sylvan training.
