Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School in Palo Alto seeks a part-time Math Specialist to provide targeted instruction for students advancing beyond grade level. The role works within existing fifth-grade math periods to support Algebra 1 readiness without creating a full class.

The ideal candidate has strong Algebra 1 knowledge, experience teaching advanced students, and excellent communication with families and colleagues. Compensation is $65 per hour for a part-time, hourly position.

Qualifications

• Strong content knowledge in Algebra 1 and beyond (through pre-calculus preferred).
• Experience teaching or tutoring mathematically advanced students.
• Ability to work with a small group or one student rather than a full class.
• Excellent communication with teachers, administrators and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized or small-group instruction in Algebra 1 and beyond for students working ahead of their grade-level math placement
• Work within the fifth grade math schedule above, rather than requiring a new standalone class block
• Collaborate with the Head of Upper School and the math department on identifying appropriate content, pacing, and assessment for accelerated students
• Coordinate with classroom teachers and administration on scheduling accommodations a student may need to make an individualized math placement work
• Track and report on student progress to families and school leadership
• Help think through the longer-term structure for supporting mathematically advanced students as the program develops, since this is a new role responding to a need that has not yet been fully mapped out
