Job summary

Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Masters Head Coach to plan, manage and direct the Masters Swim Team and ensure participant safety at all times. This role involves creating season training plans, coordinating practices and meets, and fostering an inclusive environment for swimmers of all levels.

Shifts are Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM–1:00 PM with mornings as needed; pay ranges from $18.25 to $20.00 per hour, depending on experience and availability.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions.
• Two years of competitive coaching experience; Masters Swim preferred.
• American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard with online safety training.

Responsibilities

• Plan season training plans/themes/focus and develop team events.
• Plan, write, schedule, and direct all team practices and meets.
• Create an environment welcoming swimmers of all levels and backgrounds.
• Maintain records, team lists, and provide reports as needed.
• Establish professional relationships with team members and understand goals.
• Ensure safety by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
• Hire, supervise, train, and direct assistant coaches.
• Communicate activities, meets, goals and daily training plans to the team.
• Demonstrate and monitor emergency procedures and equipment.
