Job summary

A nonprofit senior living organization seeks a Maintenance Technician for Alpena Pines in Michigan. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and structures. Ideal candidates will have 1-2 years of experience in a maintenance role, preferably in the senior housing industry. A high school diploma or GED is required along with a valid driver's license. Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, a faith-based, premier nonprofit organization providing senior living and services in Michigan, has a great opportunity to join our team as the Maintenance Technician at Alpena Pines, in Alpena, MI. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installs, repairs and/or maintaining machinery, equipment, physical structures, building systems and outside environment. Assists with the overall upkeep of the community and grounds. Excellent opportunity for a team player that can provide maintenance support in a professional and confidential manner. Experience working in senior housing industry plus.

  • Inspect grounds, facilities, and equipment routinely to determine necessity of repairs or maintenance.
  • Inspect, operate, test, maintain and repair mechanical devices, machinery, equipment and tools.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Install, assemble, repair and maintain electrical and gas appliances, equipment, systems, fixtures, lights, electronic components, plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Paint or repair surfaces, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  • Maintain by providing landscaping (trimming, cutting, weeding, & planting) and snow removal (plowing, shoveling, and salting) to ensure their appearance and safety for employees, residents and visitors.
  • Fabricate, install, repair, maintain and replace structural items such as counters, cabinets, partitions, floor and ceiling tile, gutters, roofs, etc.
  • Prepare assigned areas for various activities and events by clearing and/or rearranging furniture, setting up equipment, removing trash, etc.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and looking for hazards.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies following safety procedures.
  • Input work requests and detailed information in electronic system.
  • Install equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of buildings.
  • Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities in order to keep informed on current information and skill development.
  • Follow established policies and procedures including but not limited to, Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures, Safety policies and procedures, Federal, state and local regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience:
  • One to two years related experience in maintenance required.
Computer Skills:
  • Ability to operate a computer and operate maintenance software.
Certificates & Licenses:
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation required.
  • Certification in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC a plus.
Other Requirements:
  • On-call for maintenance emergencies required.
