Job summary

The City of Chicopee is hiring a Part-Time Local Building Inspector in the Building Department. The role requires enforcing state and city codes, reviewing plans, issuing permits, and performing inspections with a focus on accuracy and professionalism.

Ideal candidates will have familiarity with construction codes, strong customer service skills, and a valid driver's license with reliable transportation for field inspections.

Qualifications

• Basic filing skills and blueprint reading.

• Basic writing skills.
• Must have a valid driver's license AND a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Enforce provisions of 780CMR, 521 CMR, and related rules and bylaws.
• Decide on construction methods and materials per code requirements.
• Receive permit applications, issue permits, inspect sites, and enforce compliance with 780CMR.
• Issue notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780CMR.
• Inspect and investigate zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner.
• Assist permit applicants with required forms and documentation.
• Review permit applications and plans for completeness and code compliance.
• Issue building permits in a timely manner.
• Schedule and perform on-site inspections of building projects.
• Schedule Section 110.7 periodic inspections of businesses and institutions.
• Keep up with relevant code changes.
• Maintain professional standards and keep records accessible.
• Provide customer service in person, by phone, by email, or by other means.
• Perform similar or related work as required.
• Present themselves in a courteous and professional manner.
