Job summary

The Ski Area Lead at Middlebury College supervises the Ski Area Associate team and supports lift operations to ensure safe, efficient service for guests.

Responsibilities include enforcing procedures, training staff, coordinating equipment maintenance, and communicating safety concerns to supervisors. The role requires strong teamwork, independent work, and availability for nights, weekends, and holidays in a winter environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and on-the-job training.
• Experience in a ski area Mountain Operations or supervisory role preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time and priorities.
• Must have driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the lift operations team.
• Ensure team members follow procedures and are properly equipped.
• Manage equipment maintenance, requests, and replacement with reporting to the Snow Bowl Manager.
• Report safety hazards, violations, and personnel issues to supervisor.
• Provide ongoing training to employees and communicate effectively with diverse staff.
• May assist with Snow Bowl and Rikert operations including base lodge, snow removal, events, and logistics.
• Perform duties safely and per Middlebury College policies.
• Assist Ski Area staff as needed.

Job description

The Ski Area Lead supervises and supports the Ski Area Associate teammembers working in their area of expertise.

This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefits eligible position. The hiring range for this position is $20.52 to $29.74 per hour. Some hours are eligible for shift differential for nights and weekends.

• Primary responsibilities include supervising and supporting the lift operations team.

• Ensures team members are performing work assignments according to established procedures, practices, and policies and ensures team members are properly equipped for the work assignment.

• Manages Operations’ equipment ensuring proper maintenance, requisition, and replacement as needed. Reports to the Snow Bowl Manager all equipment maintenance and replacement scheduling needs.

• Reports all safety hazards or violations, and personnel problems to supervisor.

• Responsible for ongoing training of employees on the team. Communicates effectively and appropriately, both verbally and in writing, with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors to assist department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.

• Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies and procedures.

• Although not the primary responsibility, the position may be called upon, from time to time, to perform associated Ski Area operations work at the Snow Bowl and Rikert as requested including, but not limited to: supporting base lodge operations, snow removal, event set-up and cleanup, truck loading and unloading, and trash/debris removal.

• Assists the Ski Area staff as necessary.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Lifting 20 -30 pounds frequently, occasionally 50 pounds and able to pull 100 pounds occasionally. Work environment is outdoors in the winter.May have Extended periods on foot in rugged terrain.
