Job summary

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to ensure a safe, welcoming environment at the pool facilities. You will respond to emergencies, administer CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen, and enforce rules to maintain safety across all aquatic activities.

Responsibilities include enforcing pool policies, maintaining equipment and records, and providing vigilant supervision. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and participate in trainings as required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old
• Proficient in the water as determined by passing a swim test
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with groups/individuals from different backgrounds
• Represent the YMCA in a positive manner

Responsibilities

• Practice preventative lifeguarding by enforcing pool rules and conducting routine checks
• Check, clean and store safety equipment; report concerns immediately
• Secure the pool area by controlling access
• Maintain cleanliness around the aquatic facility
• Monitor chemical balance and record-keeping
• Provide undistracted supervision and vigilant zone scanning
• Follow safety policies and procedures for members and staff
• Perform rescues and emergency procedures and document incidents
• Maintain records of hours worked and arrange substitutes as needed
• Engage with participants and members to ensure a positive experience
• Assist a certified swim lesson instructor when required
• Attend trainings, staff meetings, and drills
• Perform other duties as assigned
