Job summary

Responsibilities include active surveillance, emergency response per the safe-in-six model, and routine safety checks. The role requires the ability to perform testing and respond calmly under pressure, with a commitment to ongoing certification.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard certification in CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current or ability to become certified YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Reviews emergency procedures and responds to emergencies according to YMCA policies.
• Responds with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Applies safety rules for pool and aquatic areas.
• Maintains records as required by YMCA or state health code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures needed equipment is available.
• Checks pool for hazardous conditions on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes action.
