Job summary

The YMCA of the Inland Northwest in Sandpoint, ID is hiring a Lifeguard for Litehouse/Sandpoint on a part-time basis. The role ensures a safe Aquatics environment, responds to emergencies, and enforces facility rules while engaging with members and program participants.

Required certifications (ARC Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens) and YMCA trainings, plus strong communication, are essential. Flexible shifts include weekdays and weekends, mornings to evenings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Emergency Oxygen certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and listening skills to work with staff and members, delivering a quality experience.
• Ability to identify problems and resolve them.
• Completion of YMCA required training upon hire.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and monitor the active natatorium, engaging with members, swim lesson students, and program participants.
• Activate EAPs, rescue swimmers, and provide first aid and care to injured members.
• Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations for the Aquatic facility and equipment.
• Perform checks on equipment, water quality, and facility cleanliness to ensure safety and sanitation.
• Review and apply all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies; respond to emergencies per YMCA protocol.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings to maintain skills and team connections.
