Job summary

The City of Cortez is hiring a part-time Lifeguard to help keep our aquatic facility safe, welcoming, and ready for the public. This entry-level role exists to protect patrons through attentive surveillance and prompt action when issues arise.

Shifts vary; you’ll monitor swimmers, enforce rules, perform rescues and first aid as needed, and complete safety checks to ensure equipment readiness and a smooth experience for everyone on deck.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid certification.
• Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
• Ability to pass pre-employment lifeguarding skills/knowledge testing.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• At least 15 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring swimmers and enforcing pool rules consistently.
• Preventing incidents through proactive scanning and clear communication.
• Responding to emergencies, providing rescues, first aid, and CPR as needed.
• Completing routine safety checks and maintaining readiness of rescue equipment.
