Job summary

The City of Cortez is hiring a part-time Lifeguard to help keep our aquatic facility safe, welcoming, and ready for the public. This entry-level role exists to protect patrons through attentive surveillance and prompt action when issues arise.

Shifts vary; you’ll monitor swimmers, enforce rules, perform rescues and first aid as needed, and complete safety checks to ensure equipment readiness and a smooth experience for everyone on deck.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid certification.
• Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
• Ability to pass pre-employment lifeguarding skills/knowledge testing.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• At least 15 years of age.

Responsibilities

Time to Recover

Sick leave is provided, giving you paid time off when you’re ill or need to recover.

A Typical Shift

You’ll arrive a bit early to get settled, check in with the team, and take your position. Shifts vary, so some days are steady and quiet while others are busy with families and lap swimmers. You’ll rotate breaks, stay alert to changing activity levels, and document notes from the shift. When something unexpected happens, you’ll move quickly and stay calm, then reset and continue supporting a smooth experience for everyone on deck.
