Job description

Primary Functions

Trocaire College invites applications for a part-time Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) position in the Veterinary Technology program. The ideal candidate will be a New York State-licensed veterinary technician who is a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program. This position combines instructional support with potential animal transport coordination duties. The LVT will assist faculty with delivering high-quality instruction in the laboratory setting, mentoring students in hands‑on clinical skill development, and helping maintain an organized, safe learning environment.

Essential Functions
Instructional Support
  1. Assist faculty in preparing and delivering laboratory sessions for veterinary technology courses.
  2. Provide technical and educational support to students during hands‑on clinical skill development.
  3. Ensure laboratory spaces are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  4. Maintain lab safety and adhere to proper biosafety and animal handling protocols.
  5. Help facilitate demonstrations and support student learning activities under the direction of instructional staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Graduated from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  2. Must be a New York State-licensed veterinary technician (LVT) in good standing.
  3. Maintains up-to-date immunization against infections and diseases related to the occupation of Veterinary Technician (e.g., pre‑exposure rabies vaccination).
  4. Knowledge of or willingness to learn and apply the AVMA standards of accreditation and contemporary medicine.
  5. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferred.
  7. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  8. Ability to safely handle a variety of animal species (primarily dogs and cats).
  9. This position requires regular animal handling and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  10. Must be comfortable working around animals and in a clinical/laboratory environment.

  6. Familiarity with educational technology and its impact in the classroom, labs, and online courses. Willingness to learn how to utilize teaching technologies such as Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, and ExamSoft for effective course delivery.

  8. Handling and restraining animals, including lifting patients weighing up to 50 lbs.
  9. Working with veterinary software for patient records, scheduling, and lab results.
  10. Exposure to needles, X-rays, anesthesia, and other medical procedures.
  11. Fast‑paced, sometimes high‑stress environment, assisting with or performing surgeries and treatments in a laboratory setting.
  12. Risk of bites, scratches, and exposure to bodily fluids.
