Position Overview

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY seeks an experienced Part‑Time Licensed Veterinary Technician to work on weekends.

Compensation

Pay: $30.00 – $51.32 per hour + competitive shift differentials.

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked on nights and weekends.

• Mon – Fri 6pm to 8am: +$4.50/hr.
• Sat & Sun 8am to 6pm: +$4.50/hr.
• Sat & Sun 6pm to 8am: +$8.00/hr.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases upon arrival at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co‑workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Continuing Education Plan

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500 per year reimbursement for CVT and $750 per year for VTS. The allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non‑credentialed, full‑time paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full‑time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full‑time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can carry over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro‑rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
