Job summary

Gloucester County is seeking a part-time Library Specialist to provide Outreach Services to the Gloucester Community. The position requires approximately 20 hours per week and entails developing and delivering outreach programs, assisting with circulation, and supporting events.

Under supervision, you will drive the outreach vehicle, assist patrons with computers and databases, and participate in public programs. A valid driver’s license and relevant library experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; coursework in child development, children/adult literature recommended.
• Two years of progressive experience in public library work.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive county vehicle.

Are you looking for a position that combines both your organizational and customer service skills? Gloucester County is in search of a part-time Library Specialist to offer Outreach Services for our awesome Gloucester Community.

This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 20 hours per week.

Under supervision, performs para-professional library work developing and delivering outreach services in the County. Performs circulation duties, readers’ advisory and reference and conducts programs for all ages; drives the outreach vehicle and ensures timely vehicle maintenance.

Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in all contacts with library patrons and the public.

Reports to Library Director.

• Coordinates and develops special programs/classes/events/activities for community locations including, but not limited to, assisted living facilities, schools, neighborhoods, community centers, and community events.
• Develops routes and schedules outreach visits in the County.
• Assists patrons with reader services and inquiries regarding various topics.
• Performs tasks at in-house circulation desks as needed.
• Assists patrons with the use of computers and other equipment including copiers and printers.
• Assists patrons with the use of library databases.
• Answers phone, opens/closes library locations on rotating shifts, and provides technical assistance to patrons using library computers, printers, copiers, and other public equipment.
• Registers patrons for library programs and based on assignment, may assist with implementing and promoting special events and activities.
• Attends seminars and workshops relevant to library services.
• May operate County vehicle to retrieve and distribute interoffice mail, deposit monies, and transport library materials and supplies between County libraries.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Possession of a valid driver’s license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.

• Possession of a high school diploma/GED supplemented by secondary coursework in child development, children/adult literature. Associate Degree preferred.
• Two (2) years of progressive experience in public library work.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
