Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform routine repairs, upkeep, and grounds keeping for the Lubbock Public Libraries. You will maintain grounds daily, assist with event setups, and transport materials using City vehicles.

The role requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D, 1 year of relevant maintenance experience, and a valid TX driver's license. Expect physical tasks, safety awareness, and occasional interactions with visitors.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School Diploma or G.E.D and one (1) year of experience performing routine maintenance and grounds keeping work; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following.
  • Physical Exam Required
  • Valid TX Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Maintain library grounds daily; remove debris, litter and trash from the grounds and perform routine building maintenance, as needed.
  • Assemble and move furniture.
  • Paint offices, meeting rooms, and other public area including minor wall repairs.
  • Dust book shelves, empty and clean waste receptacles; remove marks and scuffs from the walls and floors.
  • Maintains storage areas and break rooms.
  • Cleans and maintains paved and landscaped areas on library grounds.
  • Assist with setting up rooms for special events and meetings.
  • Transport library materials, furniture and supplies in City vehicle.
  • May interact with visitors and patrons.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Summary

Performs a variety of routine repairs, maintenance, and grounds keeping work for the Lubbock Public Libraries; and general upkeep of the library facilities.

Essential Functions

  • Assemble and moves furniture.

  • The tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in building and grounds maintenance.

  • Perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds;
  • Use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner;
  • Detect needed repairs and address them appropriately;

  • Prioritize tasks based on importance and timeliness.
  • Learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions;

Physical Requirements
  • Continuously stand and walk during the shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds;
  • Frequently carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently walk and stand during the shift;
  • Occasionally bend and kneel;
  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, poles and inclined surfaces;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently rotate upper body to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Frequently reach above, at, or below shoulder height;
  • Frequently push and pull objects.

Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.

Holiday Pay (Part-time)

Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran's Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day. The number of hours granted these employees as holiday pay is based on the average number of hours normally worked in a day.
