Job summary

The Lexington Public Library seeks a part-time Library Associate I at the Marksbury Family Branch to deliver friendly, helpful service and support daily library operations.

Starting hourly pay is $16.16. The typical day includes assisting with circulation, guiding patrons to resources, and helping with technology and databases. Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 2:30pm–7pm, plus alternating weekends; background check required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of popular literature and current digital resources.
• Knowledge of library practices and automation systems.
• Ability to learn standard library procedures quickly.
• Ability to provide accurate information and customer service.
• Ability to work flexible schedules.
• Background check required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with circulation activities and customer inquiries.
• Help users with resources, technology, and databases.
• Support readers’ advisory by suggesting books.
• Explain policies and refer issues to staff.
• Perform routine collection and circulation tasks.
• Maintain a welcoming, safe library environment.
• Assist with development of library engagement activities.
• Handle occasional evenings or weekends and schedule changes.
