Job summary

Columbia is seeking a dedicated library staff member to handle circulation, patron assistance, and routine maintenance of library materials. The role involves assisting patrons, answering questions, and ensuring proper processing of borrowed and returned items.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and preferably two years of library experience, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with high school completion.
• Two years experience in a library of comparable size and complexity.
• Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license.
• A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform circulation functions including checking in and out library materials, renewing library materials, processing reserve materials and routing materials to other libraries and collecting fines and fees.
• Registers new patrons by reviewing application forms and issuing or replacing library cards.
• Responds to standard questions regarding library services and policies both in the library and on the telephone; direct patrons to appropriate areas and departments.
• Maintains reserve shelf and notifies patrons when books are available.
• Resolves minor patron problems in conformity with library procedures and policies.
• Process returns and payments; maintain records of collection activity.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
