Job summary

Volunteer State Community College seeks a part-time Learning Support Specialist (pool) to provide small group and one-on-one tutoring in math, writing, or reading within the learning support classroom.

Responsibilities include supporting faculty, reviewing upcoming material, assisting with online learning environments, and maintaining progress records. This role offers up to 20 hours per week and is grant-funded through May 2029.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credit hours completed.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to an assigned caseload of students in groups or one-on-one.
• Assist faculty in helping students understand coursework.
• Review upcoming material and preparations for assisting in classes.
• Assist students with online learning environments and troubleshoot minor tech issues.
• Maintain participation records and report progress to faculty.
• Participate in onboarding and training, and weekly check-ins with a faculty lead.
• Engage in ongoing professional development managed by staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
