Job summary

Volunteer State Community College is seeking a Temporary Learning Support Specialist (Pool) to provide small group and one-on-one tutoring in math, writing, or reading within the learning support classroom. You will work with faculty teaching learning support courses to help students improve skills and competencies in each class period.

The role is part-time, in-person, with a pay rate of $20.00 per hour and up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Must have an associate degree or completion of 60 college credit hours.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to an assigned caseload of students for multiple class periods in both groups and one-on-one.
• Assist faculty in helping students understand and respond to coursework.
• Implement daily instructional strategy with faculty including reviewing upcoming course material and assignments in preparation for assisting in upcoming class.
• Assist students in navigating online learning environments and troubleshoot minor technical issues as they arise.
• Maintain participation records, check-in about student academic progress and provide feedback to faculty.
• Participate in onboarding and training.
• Participate in weekly check-ins with your faculty lead for continuous growth.
• Participate in ongoing professional development managed by staff from the Tennessee Board of Regents.
• Other duties as assigned.
